The club started in 1964 when a group of young boys in the 'Barrow and District Junior Football League', decided they would change their name from 'Dalton Youth Club' to 'Dalton United'.
Under the leadership of the well-known stalwart Freddoe Caine, the team became very successfull in local leagues and cup competitions.
This squad of boys carried on until they were to old to plat junior football and the team despersed around the area to local senior fotball teams.
The mantle of manager was then taken up by' Tucker' Atkinson who also had some very successful years in the junior leagues before taking his young squad into the 'North Western Senior League' for the first time in the clubs history.
