Dalton United’s first team (sponsored by Bargain Booze) displayed a resilient and energetic performance at Railway Meadow (sponsored by Joss Engineering), clinching a resounding 3-0 triumph against the impressive Storys of Lancaster. The result saw Dalton's first team rising to the occasion and delivering a fourth home win of the season, leaving the large home support pleased in the unseasonably hot September weather.

Despite being eighth in the league before the match, after a heavy away defeat last time out, Dalton proved their mettle against fourth-placed Storys, emerging victorious and climbing to fifth position in the West Lancashire League Division Two standings.

The opening goal for Dalton came on the stroke of halftime, courtesy of prolific forward Jordan Chubb, who demonstrated precision & composure to finish well from around eight yards out. Robbie Sanderson’s expertly executed assist, stemming from some neat and clever interplay between Dalton’s forwards, set the stage for Chubb to grab his fourth goal of the season.

Ethan Cole extended Dalton's lead with an accomplished and composed strike on the 62nd minute. Cole expertly connected with a precise cross from Robbie Sanderson and coolly slotted the ball into the opposite corner of the goal with his right foot for his first goal since returning to the club in the summer.

Seventeen-year-old Lewis Taylor sealed the victory on 96 minutes with a neat left-footed finish from outside the box, rewarding his relentless efforts throughout the game. Andy Frazer & Ryan Rocks played a pivotal role in providing the assist that allowed Taylor to take his chance from around 20 yards.

The match did see a setback for Dalton when the returning Keith Holmes had to leave the field due to an ankle injury just 14 minutes into the game. However, his replacement, Ryan Rocks, seamlessly integrated into the team and played a crucial role in securing the win.

Dalton's defence, featuring Pearson, Rigg, man of the match Harvey Cooper, Harkin, and, later on, Cole Cooper, all displayed admirable resilience against Storys' relentless attacks. With bodies on the line defending and blocks, Storys couldn’t find a way through the red wall.

United’s keeper, Peter Thompson, was also pivotal, making three crucial saves to ensure Dalton maintained a clean sheet.

This victory not only underlines Dalton United FC's ability to compete with higher-ranked opponents once again but also demonstrates their determination to climb the league table.

On a day when the ‘Kids are United’ and dozens of our junior players and their families came to the Meadow to show their support, the healthy crowd were left satisfied and hoping for more exciting performances from the team in red and black in the weeks to come. Everyone at the club hopes the many new supporters who came down this weekend will return.

The game was played in extreme heat for the time of year, and both sets of players maintained a high level of intensity for the entire one hundred minutes of play.

The game was refereed exceptionally well by the talented and near-perfect Rob Greenwood on an excellent surface in front of another big crowd.

Elsewhere, the reserves (sponsored by Evalast) tough run of fixtures and results continued. With many absentees at the moment, the team are introducing new players who are stepping up to meet the challenge. Alas, after a dominant first-half display, Barrow Celtic were too strong for Dalton’s reserves at Newby Terrace, running out 7-2 winners. 16-year-old Jack Carruthers with his second goal of the season, Liam Holmes adding Dalton’s second.

At Ormsgill, the A Team (sponsored by Pair Creative) got their season off and running with an awe-inspiring 5-0 victory against Bootle AFC reserves: P. Holmes, Garthwaite, G. Brown, and Kavanagh (2), the scorers.

On a day of more seasonal weather, on Sunday, the under-18s (sponsored by Takis) went down away to Milnthorpe Town U18s by 2-0 at Dallam.

Next up for Dalton is a tough away trip to league newbies Caton United.

The reserves also have a tough away fixture, as they travel to Vickerstown CCFC in a 2pm kick-off at Park Vale.

On the Meadow this week are the A Team as they welcome Croftlands Park Reserves, also a 2 pm kick-off.

There is no game for the U18s this week.
