Dalton United's first team, proudly sponsored by Bargain Booze, continued their improved early season form with a thrilling 4-2 victory over league newcomers Caton United.

This result follows their impressive 3-0 home win against Storys last week. With these back-to-back wins, Dalton have climbed to fourth place in the highly competitive West Lancashire League second division, partly thanks to favourable results elsewhere.

The match against Caton United was a rollercoaster of emotions for both teams. Caton opened the scoring two minutes into the game, taking advantage of a defensive mix-up. However, Dalton responded well, with Declan Wallis netting his first-ever goal for the first team on the 33rd minute, levelling the score. Sam Johnson's impressive dribbling skills paved the way for Wallis to strike the ball into the top corner.

Jordan Chubb then displayed his prowess with a spectacular free-kick into the top left corner of the Caton goal, giving Dalton a 2-1 lead on 76 minutes. But Caton wasn't willing to concede defeat easily and swiftly equalised from a corner. However, Dalton contested that it should have been a goal kick. The match stood at 2-2 with little over 13 minutes to play.

Robbie McMurdo's introduction into the game injected fresh energy into Dalton's attack. With McMurdo's creative playmaking, Dalton kept pushing for the winner, creating opportunities for Sanderson, Chubb, and McMurdo himself. Despite their efforts, the Caton goalkeeper held firm, denying Dalton's advances with two excellent saves, first from Sanderson and later from Chubb.

Persistence paid off when McMurdo delivered a quick pass to Chubb, who skillfully manoeuvred inside the box with four minutes left to play and secured his second goal of the game to put Dalton back ahead.

In a dramatic turn of events, with a minute left, Caton had a potential penalty claim for handball denied. Just a minute later, Dalton capitalised on a deep free-kick, with Cole Cooper smashing the ball home from close range for his first goal for the first team, securing the victory for Dalton.

Meanwhile, the reserve team, sponsored by Evalast, participated in the Furness FA Senior Cup, where they led 2-1 at halftime against Vickerstown at Park Vale, courtesy of goals from Harvey Guest and Andy Frazer. However, Vickerstown roared back in the second half, ultimately winning 5-2 and advancing to the next round.

Over at Railway Meadow, sponsored by Joss Engineering, the A Team continued their impressive form with a resounding 9-1 victory over Croftlands Park Reserves. The goal scorers included Phil Holmes from the penalty spot, George Brown, Jack Kavanagh (4), Owen McDonald (2), and captain Harrison O'Brien. This victory propelled Andy Dickinson's men to third place in the Furness Premier League Division Two.

Looking ahead to this weekend, all four teams are gearing up for their next challenges. The first team faces a tough away fixture against Garstang Reserves at The Riverside, the reserves return to league action at Railway Meadow, welcoming Furness Cavaliers, and the A Team is set to clash with Kirkby United reserves at Ormsgill.

The Under 18s will conclude the weekend at home on Railway Meadow, facing off against Milnthorpe Town in a 2pm kick-off.
